Winter is just around the corner! Here’s an easy tutorial on how to give your living room a warm, rustic look.
*Rope can be bought by the foot or by the meter in any hardware store – which saves you money and helps prevent waste.
FIND YOUR LOGS!
That’s the obvious place to start, since nothing says “rustic” like logs! Only certain logs will meet your esthetic criteria,
though. So you need to choose them carefully while you’re out in the forest or looking through your brother-in-law’s garage.
We prefer species like birch, which makes for a nicer visual effect, and we choose very dry wood. The logs should also,
ideally, be more or less the same diameter – the ones in this image are, on average, 2.5" (6.5 cm).
Now cut up the wood into five smaller logs, each one 16 inches (40 cm) long.
PUT THOSE EXCELLENT SCOUTING SKILLS TO USE!
Practice your best scouting techniques – it’s time to show off your skill with knots (or rather, a stapler!!).
First, you cut your rope into five pieces – four of them 23” (58 cm) long and one 18” (46 cm). Then put the
logs together in a triangular pile. Staple 2 lengths of rope to each side of the bundle, making sure the staples
are on the bottom and out of sight. Staple the fifth (the shortest) piece of rope to the top, to make a handle.
And there you go – you’re all set!
Now get under a pile of snug, warm blankets, and enjoy your rustic decor.
